To date David Ogilvy has produced Like It Is, Mockingbird and Heaven and Earth, three critically acclaimed albums which trace a progression through folk influences toward the darker and more urban world found in the songs of the latter.
While spending many years in demand as a session musician offering soul and versatility on pedal and lap-steel guitars as well as any other kind of guitar that came his way, David also wrote material for the likes of Peter Andre, Nick Kamen, Eg and Alice and Curiosity Killed the Cat. In 2009 he wrote a gospel Mass which was given its debut performance at Westminster Cathedral. He also co-wrote and produced the debut album of the popular Greek-American singer-songwriter, Christina Kulukundis, in the same year.
David songs are featured in the Hollywood film, The Flock, starring Richard Gere, Gabby Dellal’s film Angel’s Crest and he wrote the score for the controversial American documentary The Toughest Sheriff in America. He has also worked on numerous TV commercials.
His more recent idiosyncratic combination of blues elements and orchestral writing has been given an outing in various soundtracks for film and television. Latest credits include two documentaries by Hannah Rothschild (High Society: The Wonderful World of Nicky Haslam, Peter Mandelson: The Real PM?) shown as part of the BBC’s Storyville series and Gerry Fox’s forthcoming art-house film version of Edward St Aubyn’s Booker-nominated novel Mother’s Milk. His latest production is a combination of song and spoken word with Nicky Haslam entitled ‘Midnight Matinée’ released in July 2013 on Stike Force Records.
